"Throw distance" is simply how far a projector needs to sit from the screen to produce a given image size — and getting it wrong is the single most common reason a projector installation disappoints on day one.
Short-throw projectors
Designed to sit close to the screen (sometimes under a metre away), short-throw units are ideal for compact classrooms, tuition rooms or spaces where a ceiling mount far from the wall isn't practical. They also reduce shadow interference when a teacher stands near the screen.
Long-throw (standard) projectors
Standard-throw projectors need more distance behind the lens to fill a large screen, which suits bigger halls, auditoriums and home theatres with more room to work with.
How to calculate what you need
Every projector's spec sheet lists a throw ratio (distance ÷ screen width). Multiply that ratio by your desired screen width to get the required mounting distance — then check it against your actual room dimensions before ordering.
